drawing

drawing is about seeing. when you draw something, you observe the subject differently. your sense and awareness of the space changes. the experience of the light is transformed. the moment becomes less about the idea of the place and more about the layers of details adding up to something profound.

In the studio there are 2 different kinds of drawings. one is a record of the experience of the space and light. the other is an imagination of the experience of the space and light. the difference is drawing what one sees versus drawing what one thinks. the first type is slower and almost retrospective and the second is fast. in studio the fast drawings are a “talking while drawing” mixed media experience of words and drawn lines as part of the collaborative design process. the slow drawings are quiet, solitary experiences.

we enjoy drawing with any implement. cheap pens, pencils, crayons, markers, nearly anything will do. the scale of the drawing changes depending on the tools.
